I am interested in the act of making sculpture and the materials response to it. My approach to working is intuitive, and holds a playful and minimalistic nature. The work develops out of repetitious actions, and unfolds through hermeneutic placements and pairings. Here, I think of the whole as being established by the interconnectedness of the individual elements of the piece, and their interconnectedness only resolved when the whole is taken into consideration.
In my method of working I think about a delicate balance between an impulsive thatll-do ad hoc gesture, and the sometimes technically inclined and taken for granted handy-craft applications. The work of art in turn becomes an amalgamation of the hand-made and readymade, and oscillates between the abstract and direct, while the resulting forms simultaneously optimize the spectacular and mundane qualities of material.
